Civic Medals

In 1997 the Town Council introduced the Horwich Civic Award, often called the Horwich Civic Medal. It acknowledges great service, over many years, to the people of the Parish of Horwich in a wide range of ways.

David Fairbrother

David's contribution to coaching young players at Horwich RMI Cricket Club for over 30 years as well as his commitment all his adult life to the cricketing life of the town is acknowledged in the receipt of the award.


David has worked tirelessly to promote, encourage and coach the young people of Horwich and district in cricket. He is involved in the sport at all levels and runs training sessions every Friday evening throughout the year. Young members have attained success at local, regional and national levels. He was particularly successful in 2012 when his under 13's team, as representatives of the Bolton League went on to win both Lancashire and North of England titles. David then took his young team to the finals of the English Cricket Board Finals where they were placed joint third.


David is involved in coaching cricket inn schools in Horwich and Blackrod and he is also one of the coaches for the Bolton District team. He also attends coaching sessions for the county and is regarded as being among the elite in cricket circles.


Thomas Peter Kellett

If you think of scouting in Horwich then the chances are you'll probably think of Peter Kellett.


For over thirty five years, Peter has been Scout Leader at 18th Bolton Lord Street Scouts, engaging with young people and teaching them new skillsin lots of different activities. It would be difficult to estimate how many teenagers have passed through the doors of the scout hut on Lord Street and benefitted from Peter's enthusiasm for scouting, including taking many scouting trips and holidays to camps both in this country and even overseas.


Peter has shown outstanding commitment to the young people in Horwich and it is in recognition of his total dedication to scouting that he has received the Horwich Civic Medal.


If you know of anyone who you think deserves the recognition of their fellow citizens, please make a nomination to the Town Clerk giving the fullest possible details of the nominee. Nominations will remain confidential, but those who nominate the successful recipients will be informed close to the time of the award of the medals.
