At the heart of the Middlebrook development is the new Bolton Arena. Situated in pride of place alongside the award-winning Bolton Wanderers Reebok Stadium, the arena provides a stage for local, regional, national and international events.

Bolton ArenaBolton Arena is the first purpose built indoor tennis tournament venue in the UK, offering facilities to stage regional, national and international events.

Catering for the borough's recreational needs - the arena provides a major community tennis programme, athletics, soccer, netball, hockey, basketball and a range of fitness and sports performance provision second-to-none. The unique development of the Sports Education Theatre on the arena's first floor offers new coaching and development in sport for schools, colleges, clubs and individuals as never before. Utilising existing and emerging technology there is record/replay analysis of actual and simulated sports activity. Live links to the world of sport and sports development enables coaching and master classes to be shared between the arena and, for example, Australia, America and host organisations across Europe and the world. Broadcast quality facilities allows the Theatre to host major sports productions, seminars and workshops taking a British lead on a global stage.

The main arena building is elliptical in shape and provides a high quality, recognisable national landmark of which the whole community, locally, and nationally can be very proud.

Some of the Arena's facilities include:
