Medals awarded in 2005

Two recipients received awards in 2005.

Ken Burns (left)

Ken Burns has devoted over forty years of his life to the Horwich RMI Cricket Club. They are very proud to have him as their President.

A popular figure within the Club, he is both an enthusiastic spectator and official. Never a remote figure, Ken is prepared to ‘roll his sleeves up’ and spends many of his hours in the Summer working as a voluntary groundsman.

He also helps to transport the junior teams around Lancashire and still manages to find time to help to raise much needed cash to ensure cricket continues to be played on the RMI.

Ken has made an outstanding contribution to sport in Horwich.

Douglas Foster (right)

Dougie Foster gave tremendous service to the town. For over fifty years he was Parade Marshal for both the Remembrance Sunday and Civic Sunday Parades, a task requiring not only considerable stamina, but also great dedication and a high sense of duty. He was ‘Mr Horwich’ and the town owes him a great debt.

But he also had a long history of serving the Parish of Horwich. He was a Special Police Constable here for twenty seven years.

A keen crown green bowler, he was an enthusiastic member of the Horwich Public Hall Veterans Bowling Club and served for several years as its Treasurer.
